Czech Republic Missions Trip 2008

For the third year running, a team from Gabalfa went to the Czech Republic to serve a missionary couple out there – Jimmie and Hulda Bennett. There was the additional blessing this year that one of our own church members, Kath is out there serving for a couple of years. The trip took much the same shape as the one the previous year, and we were involved in very similar things – it was a great blessing to be able to serve in both practical and spiritual ways, even if what we were able to do was quite small. It was also great to meet and get to know some of the believers out there, and our prayers remain with this ministry and with the church out in Pardubice. Here are some of the things we did:

Pre-school party – We were able to help in a lot of the practicalities for the end of term party for the pre-school class. The goal of the class is to seek to reach out to the families as well as to the kids, and it was great to have the chance to serve in this ‘Hawaiian’ party.

Practical Work – We did a day of practical work round the school that Jimmie and Hulda run – once again, as in previous years we cut the hedge, but this time with an electric hedge-trimmer – far more fun than manual clippers! We also did some painting, gardening, and other stuff around the place.

Open Air (almost) – We went out for one afternoon to do some open air work in a nearby city, however, having been there for half an hour, the heavens opened & we were unable to continue – I think we did hand a few tracts out, and a few songs were sung, so who knows!

Kids Camp – The main part of the time we spent away was a kids camp where kids from a children’s home came and spent a few days with us. We stayed in the same place as last year, and it was another good time of getting to know the kids, having opportunity to share the Gospel with them and generally having a good time. One young lad on the camp certainly made a profession of faith, and we pray for fruit from the time that we spent.
